Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Introduction

The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery focuses on restoring form and function following trauma and other orthopedic conditions such as tumors or congenital deformities. The department has 25 beds, including male, female, and pediatric ward beds. We perform an average of 30 to 35 surgeries per month, mostly traumatic in nature. There are two fixed regular OT days in a week, in addition to emergency OT whenever required. We also have a separate septic OT for infected cases. There are two OPD days in a week where operated cases are followed up and dressings are done.

  • Skin and soft tissue cover of wounds
  • Complications of trauma and fractures
  • Limb salvage surgery, microsurgery, and flap reconstruction of the extremities
  • Complex hand and wrist surgeries
  • Chronic wound problems and osteomyelitis
  • Skin and bone grafts
  • Peripheral nerve injuries and brachial plexus injuries
  • Congenital limb anomalies

Professor and HOD of Plastic Surgery

The plastic surgeon in the department has completed his MCh in Plastic Surgery from NHL Medical College, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He has been working at Victoria Hospital, Bangalore Medical College, and Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopedics since then. He completed his post-graduation (MS General Surgery) from Bangalore Medical College and his undergraduate studies at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli.

He has a special interest in academics and teaching, with numerous national and international journal publications and paper presentations at national conferences. He is an active participant in various plastic surgery workshops and conferences and is keen on continuously updating his knowledge and skills. His special interests include trauma, limb reconstructive surgeries, and hand surgeries.
