About Us

Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma & Orthopaedics serves as Parent Hospital to Allied Health Science courses.
On the academic front the Institute serves as a Teaching Forum for Medical, Paramedical & Nursing students starting from Under Graduate level to Post Graduation training programmes.

B.Sc. Allied Health Sciences course is working under the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic, affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences,

  1. B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology was established in the year of 2001-02 with the present student strength of 60.
  2. B.Sc. Operation Theatre Technology was established in the year of 2006-07 with the present student strength of 46.
  3. B.Sc. Anaesthesia Technology was established in the year of 2006-07 with the present student strength of 29.
  4. B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology was established in the year of 2016-17 with the present student strength of 10.

 

Principal Desk :
Healthcare sector is one of the rapidly going industries in India and it is becoming a global health care hub. Professionals “who do  a blood test or help in performing a scan or assist in surgeries or assist the anaesthetist or handle the anaesthesia machine and aid the doctor for better treatment of the patient and hence make health care easy and effective are called as Allied Health Sciences (AHS) professionals”. An Allied Health Science person is a professional who helps the doctors in specialized areas and facilitates for better diagnosis, treatment and therapy. The increase in number of patients, variety of diseases and the demand for immense treatment has paved the way for AHS professionals who are expert technicians or therapists providing better quality to human health care.

The Institute aims at teaching such Allied Health Sciences students to contribute to better health care in the society.

About Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences – RGUHS
For the regulation and promotion of higher education in health sciences throughout the state of Karnataka, the Government of Karnataka passed as Act in 1994 to establish the University of Health Sciences and the  Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences was thus established. It started functioning from 1st June 1996. The institution is named after former Prime minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. Originally it was cantered in Mysore, but in 1998 the Karnataka State Legislature directed that it be moved to Bangalore.
All Medical and health sciences educational institutions in the state come under the purview of this University. There are about 235 institutions in the state belonging to different health science facilities such as medical, dental, ayurveda, homeopathy, unani, naturopathy and yogic sciences, pharmacy , nursing, physiotherapy, speech and hearing, hospital management, medical laboratory technology and radiography under this University for affiliation, admissions, examinations award of degrees and maintenance of the uniformity and standardisation of all the academic programs and degrees. Since large number of institutions of health sciences are spread over the entire state, it has become a challenging task to monitor and control the administrative and academic functions for the University.   

Eligibility Criteria For Admissions :

1. B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology:
Pre-University examination conducted by department of Pre-University Education or any recognized State Board with 40% marks with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics as Principal subjects. 
OR 
PUC from a recognized board with vocational course in Radiography/Radiology as Vocational subjects. 
OR 
An equivalent examination recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, for the above purpose with 40 % marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics as principle subjects.

2. B.Sc. Anaesthesia Technology and Operation Theatre Technology:
Pass in 2nd year P.U.C. Examination or equivalent recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, with any combination, but should have studied any of the two subjects, viz, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. 
OR 
An equivalent examination other than P.U.C. of Karnataka PUC Board should obtain and furnish the eligibility certificate issued by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences at the time of admission.

Method Of Selection
The selection is made entirely on the basis of Performance of candidates in the Interview conducted by the selection Committee of the Institute.

Duration Of Course
The duration of the B.Sc. Allied Health Sciences course is three years and one year including compulsory rotation internship after passing final year degree examination.

  1. The above fee structure is subject to change at any time as per the rules of the Institution.
  2. Any other Fee prescribed by SGITO/RGUHS will be borne by the Candidate.
  3. Fees and other charges once paid will not be refunded if the student leaves the Institute before completion of term and candidate should pay the fee of full term or does not join the Institute for any reason before the prescribed date. No correspondence will be entertained in this connection.

Eligibility Certificate
Candidates who have passed any qualifying examination other than two years PUC of Karnataka Pre-University Board should obtain and furnish the eligibility certificate issued by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences at the time of submission of application. Without eligibility certificate applications will be rejected.

Application For Admission
Candidates are advised to browse the Institute website carefully before sending their application to the Institute. Filled in application form should be addressed to the Director, Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bangalore-560011. The prospectus and application form can be obtained from the Institute or can also be downloaded from www.sgito.org. The prospectus with application form can be obtained by post by sending a Bank draft for Rs. 150/- drawn in favour of the Director, Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Bangalore-560011, or from any scheduled Bank for Rs.100/- if to be collected in Person. 

All particulars in the application form should be filled carefully and legibly and sent in a cover superscribed “Application for B.Sc. Allied Health Science Course” address to the Director, Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Byrasandra, Jayanagar East, Bangalore – 560011, in person or by post preferably by registered post acknowledgement due, so as to reach the Institute on or before due date. The application fee paid will not be refundable in any case. Applications, which are incomplete, shall not be considered. The Institute will not take any responsibility for any delay in the receipt or loss of application in postal transit.

Interview
All the candidates must appear at the time of Interview along with all the Original Certificates to the Office.

General Instructions

  1. Applications received after the due date will not be considered.
  2. All particulars in the application form must be written carefully and legibly.
  3. The decision of the Director of the Institute shall be final in the matter of selection of candidates for admission to the various courses and no appeal shall be entertained on the subject.
  4. Any attempt on the part of a candidate to influence directly or indirectly will be treated as a disqualification.
  5. Each candidate selected for admission shall have to pay the fee / dues within the prescribed period failing which his / her admission shall be cancelled and the next candidate on the waiting list shall be admitted in the order of merit.
  6. The period of course is strictly full time and continuous. All students admitted to the Institute shall maintain good conduct, pay the requisite tuition fee and other charges by due dates, attend their classes regularly and abide by the regulations of the Institute failing which their names are liable to be struck off from the attendance rolls of the Institute.
  7. No individual intimation to unselected candidates will be sent and no correspondence on this subject will be entertained.
  8. The rules are subject to change in accordance with the decision of the Institute from time to time.
  9. Selected candidates must join the respective course within the date stipulated in the letter of selection. The seats of candidates who fail to join the course with the stipulated time mentioned in the letter of selection shall automatically stand cancelled and such shall then be given to the candidate in the waiting list in the order of merit.
  10. No separate intimation will be given to the candidate for the interview.
  11. Candidates who have passed any qualifying examination other than two years PUC of Karnataka, should obtain and furnish the eligibility certificate issued by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences at the time of submission of application, without eligibility certificate application will be rejected.
  12. The Candidates of other states will be considered under general merit category.
  13. Candidates should submit separate application forms for each course.
  14. Clinical Experience to Students – Postings in other Institutes to get better experience in this field.

Word Of Vigilance
If any candidate is found to have declared the false information or certificates etc. or is found to have withheld or cancelled some information in his/her Application he/she shall be debarred from admission.

Distribution Of Teaching Hours
The course of study leading to B.Sc. Allied Health Sciences degree comprises of 3½ year. A candidate shall undergo the course of instruction on the following subjects:

Attendance, Progress and conduct :
Every candidate should have attended at least 80% of the total number of classes conducted in an academic year from the date of commencement of the term to the last working day as notified by university in each of the subjects prescribed for that year separately in theory and practical. Only such candidates are eligible to appear for the university examinations in their first attempt. Special classes conducted for any purpose shall not be considered for the calculation of percentage of attendance for eligibility. A candidate lacking in prescribed percentage of attendance in any subjects either in theory or practical in the first appearance will not be eligible to appear for the University Examination in that subject .

Internal Assessment:
Theory – 20 marks.
Practical – 10 marks. [Lab work- 06 marks and Record-04 marks ]
There shall be a minimum of two periodical tests preferably one in each term in theory and practical of each subject in an academic year. The average marks of the two tests will be calculated and reduced to 20. The marks of IA shall be communicated to the University at least 15 days before the commencement of the University examination. The University shall have access to the records of such periodical tests. The marks of the internal assessment must be displayed on the notice board of the respective colleges with in a fortnight from the date test is held. If a candidate is absent for any one of the tests due to genuine and satisfactory reasons, such a candidate may be given a re-test within a fortnight. * There shall be no University Practical Examination in First year.

Schedule Of Examination
The university shall conduct two examinations annually at an interval of not less than 4 to 6 months as notified by the university from time to time. A candidate who satisfies the requirement of attendance, progress and conduct as stipulated by the university shall be eligible to appear for the university examination. Certificate to that effect shall be produced from the Head of the institution along with the application for examination and the prescribed fee.

Scheme Of Examination
There shall be three examinations, one each at the end of I, II and III year. The examination for both main and subsidiary subjects for all courses in Allied Health Sciences shall be common in the first year. Distribution of Subjects and marks for First Year, Second year & Third year University theory and practical Examinations are shown in the Table – IV, V & VI.

First Year Examination
The University examination for 1st year shall consist of only theory examination and there shall be no University Practical Examination.

Second And Third Year Examination
The University examination for 2nd and 3rd year shall consist of Written Examination & Practical.

Carry Over Benefits

First Year Examination:
A candidate who fails in any two of the five main subjects of first year shall be permitted to carry over those subjects to second year. However, he/se must pass the carry over subjects before appearing for second year examination; otherwise he/she shall not be permitted to proceed to third year.

Second Year Examination:
A candidate is permitted to carry over any one main subject to the third year but shall pass this subject before appearing for the third year examination

Course of Study:
The course of study leading to B.Sc. Allied Health Sciences degree comprises of 4 year. A candidate shall undergo the course of instruction on the following subjects:

Internship:  6 Months internship after passing final year exam.

The most essential need for any student is a good library & information centre and the Institute with good reference material has established one such specialized library in the field of Allied Health Sciences.
