This includes injury to the facial soft tissues, bones, and teeth with supporting structures. It may range from a minor scar to lifetime disfigurement. Facial fractures and concomitant cranial injuries carry a significant potential for mortality and neurological morbidity, mainly in young adults.<\/p><p>The leading causes of these injuries include motor vehicle accidents, pedestrian collisions, falls, sports injuries, industrial accidents, assaults, and warfare injuries. These injuries can be life-threatening, as they may compromise the airway and cause significant hemorrhage. The management of facial trauma remains a challenge for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, demanding both skill and a high level of expertise.<\/p><p>The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has experienced staff who have been at the forefront in academic and professional fields with specialized training and research publications to their credit.
